Connecticut State Police troopers responded to the eastbound lanes on Route 2 at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, where there was a report of a wrong-way crash in Glastonbury involving a tractor-trailer and a motorist from Cleveland.

Police said that the driver of the Toyota, Christian Alvarez Villarini, 27, was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer from Bolus Freight Systems in Scranton less than two miles west of exit 10. The driver of the tractor-trailer, George Bolsar, 49, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and Villarini was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash shut down Route 2 for several hours between exits 8 and 9. Later in the morning, several lanes were closed as the crash remains under investigation. The Connecticut State Police reconstruction team was called to the crash. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was also called to clean up fuel that spilled following the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information has been asked to contact Dimitrios Karadimos at Troop H by calling (860) 534-1000.
